Jumping Jacks
Since its inception in 1988, the World Champion Jumping Jacks Precision Jump Rope Team from Essex County has been going strong, currently boasting twenty-five members, aged nine to twenty-one. What began as a school "Heart and Stroke" demonstration team from Jack Miner Public School in Kingsville, Ontario, developed into the "Heart Beats," and finally evolved into this internationally acclaimed team known first and foremost for its precision group routines.
The Jumping Jacks are known for demonstrating a variety of jump rope skills, as well as for competing in speed, power, and freestyle events with both single and Double Dutch ropes. They have captured the gold in Canadian, Pan-American, AAU and World competitions. On their roster are members who have traveled to such diverse places as Australia, Germany, Hungary, Japan, and most recently, England, where the senior members shared jump rope skills as instructors at a "Euro-Camp".
Though a highly competitive team, the Jumping Jacks have remained true to their roots as a demonstration team, having performed at half-time university and college sporting events, and even at a NFL game and NHL All-Star weekend. They have performed at Toronto's Ontario Place and Milk Festival. Locally, the Jumping Jacks have been active in school workshops, town festivals, and parades.
The Jumping Jacks Precision Jump Rope Team has hosted competitions at every level in Canada. Always aware of the strength in team-building, senior members are currently running several strong recreational programs from which the team can draw its future athletes and continue as a powerhouse in the sport of jump rope.
