Georgian Jumpers
The Georgian Jumpers are based in Parry Sound on the shores of beautiful Georgian Bay. This is our 11th season and we really feel we have developed a strong team. Our team’s biggest hurdle is the fact that the next closest team to us is over 2 hours away. We continue to hope that one day there will with another Northern Ontario team. In order to show our sport to the surrounding communities we will be performing in our area as well as south of us in Barrie and Innisfil. We are working even more closely with Jump Rope for Heart and our school shows are now a part of their kick off assemblies’.
Our team is made up of 9 competitive athletes and 40 recreational team members. This fall, for the first time, we offered an adult recreational skipping class. This was class was a huge success and we will be running a second session in the New Year.
On top of our Jump Rope for Heart performances we also participate in our usual annual events. These include The Santa Claus Parade, Canada Day and local fall fairs. We will also be heading to Innisfil in March for our first performance at a Cosmic Dance Show.
The team attended 2 summer camps in 2009 including the USA Jump Rope camp at Taylor University in Indiana, and the ORSO camp in Hamilton. Both camps were fantastic and the athlete’s came away with many new skills.
We are hosting Provincials on March 27th & 28th. This is a huge undertaking for a small team but we are already on top of things with the help of all our parents. We are adding a new event to this weekend; an Awards Banquet on the Saturday night. Won’t it be nice to watch the athlete’s receive their ribbons after eating a great meal, instead of sitting on the floor or in the bleachers at the high school gym!
