Student Services

The staff  at Our Lady of Lourdes student services believes that an effective guidance and counselling program should be integrated into the school curriculum and available to all students. The variety of curriculum choices, the changes in diploma requirements, the vast number of post-secondary options available today and the complexities of the modern world make it essential that a high priority be given to the services of the Guidance and Counselling Department
Services

We provide academic, career, personal and attendance counselling. These services are offered to assist students in locating and using school, community, health, educational and career resources which will help them realize their personal, educational and career goals.

Academic Counselling includes course selection and planning, post-secondary program requirements, levels of difficulty and implications, direct work entry and apprenticeship information.

Career Counselling includes supplying information on the career development process, career search and course planning as well as programs such as Take Our Kids to Work.

Personal Counselling is available if you wish to discuss personal or interpersonal problems. Referrals are made to the school social worker, board staff, or outside agencies when appropriate.

Attendance Counselling is provided when referrals are made by teachers, parents or school administration.

Information Services

The department has an extensive guidance and Career Resource Centre with information available on universities, colleges and other post-secondary institutions. Career information is accessible through the My Blueprint,  career pamphlets, government publications and College and University placement information
In order to assist students to reach their personal, educational and career goals, the counselling staff believes that parent-staff communication is essential. Parents are encouraged to visit the Guidance Resource Centre and to visit with their student's counsellor. Please feel free to contact any of the counsellors at 519-836-2170.
