Club Information

We have a rich history at the Guelph Wrestling Club that has seen many champions and leaders come out of the program.  The Guelph Wrestling Club (GWC) has been able to run a successful youth and senior amateur-wrestling program for many years. With our youth program we have been able to introduce many boys and girls to this great sport. We also have a growing number of local high school wrestlers that come to train and hone their skills at our facility. We are placing a great emphasis on the youth program, as it is our clubs connection to the community. We also hope that these youngsters will choose to attend the University of Guelph or join the senior program in the future.

Our current senior program is still one of the best in the country and will continue to improve with the recent investment in new mats and equipment for our wrestling room.   Doug Cox is a 3time Olympic Wrestler at both the Freestyle and Greco-Roman Levels.  Dave has coached on many international teams, including the World Championships.

Wayne Brightwell who is a past National Champion and Olympian, is the head of our youth coaching staff. Karlo Kasap, who is a Yugoslavian and Canadian National Champion as well as an Olympian, also lends his expertise on Saturdays. Some of our senior wrestlers have been a huge reason why the Saturday practices have been such a success. By having our senior wrestlers involved with the youth program we are able to give each individual wrestler more attention while at the same time providing mentoring and creating relationships within our club.

We would like to invite you to join our club and be part of this growing tradition.
