OFSAA WEST REGIONAL 2009 GENERAL INFORMATION PLEASE NOTE: Entry to the facility will not be allowed until 2:00pm to minimize disruption to the school, 1.) AGE CLASSIFICATION AND ELIGIBILITY: a.) MIDGET - 14 years and under as at midnight December 31, 2008. JUNIOR - 15 years and under as at midnight December 31, 2008. SENIOR - 19 years and under as at midnight December 31, 2008. b.) Any student entered must meet the eligibility requirements of his/her association and those of OFSAA. Ages must be checked carefully. It is understood that the principal of each school has certified each athlete eligible prior to entry in any high school meet. 2.) ENTRIES, ENTRY FEE AND SUBSTITUTIONS a.) Each association may enter up to FIVE (5) (6 for the host region) athletes per individual track, field or relay event. b.) Competitors may enter three (3) individual age class or open events. c.) Each competitor may enter one age class relay (his/her own age class or higher) and the open 4 x 400m relay. NO SCHOOL MAY ENTER MORE THAN ONE TEAM PER AGE GROUP RELAY EVENT. d.) Entry Fees are: II.) $ 25.00 per relay team. e.) Substitutions to the Regional meet are allowed if the change is made by the Association Convenor before 4:00 pm on No changes will be accepted after this date. Under no circumstances will substitutions be allowed on the days of the meet. 3.) OFSAA ENTRY FEE a.) An OFSAA entry desk will be set up at the Regional Meet. It is the responsibility of each school to check b.) Any problems that may exist concerning regional entries or OFSAA entries must be directed to the Regional Convenor c.) OFSAA entry fees are paid by the Regional Convenor from the entry fees collected at the regional meet. 4.) ATHLETE NUMBERS and UNIFORMS a.) Numbers will be assigned to each athlete. Athletes must wear the assigned number on the: II.) Front for other track events III.) Front or back for field events b.) Each relay team must have an athlete wear a number appropriate to the school. This number must be worn on the c.) Athletes must compete in their school uniforms. Relay teams must wear IDENTICAL TOPS. d.) Envelops containing numbers, pins, etc. for each school will be available at the 5.) SEEDING and LANE ASSIGNMENTS a.) Field events will not be seeded. The order of jumping and throwing will be random and this will be done b.) Track events run in heats to finals will be seeded so that the top seeds are separated into different heats. c.) Lane assignments from Heats to Finals: The top four seeds (Four fastest Times in heats) will be placed in d.) In all timed section finals, the THREE ASSOCIATION WINNERS will be placed in the last (fast) section along e.) In all timed section finals, the top finishers will be determined by the best times from both sections. 6.) QUALIFYING from a HEAT to a FINAL The top three finishers in each heat plus the next two fastest times will qualify to the final. 7.) SCRATCH RULE If an athlete scratches from a track final after qualifying from a heat, he/she may not compete in any other 8.) FIELD EVENT =TIMING= The 1.5 minute rule will be used in the pole vault event. In all other field events, the 1 minute rule will be used. 9.) FIELD EVENTS (Final Three Jumps) In throws and horizontal jumps, after 3 jumps the top eight and ties for eighth will be given three additional trials. 10.) CONFLICTS a.) If a competitor is entered in both a track and field event, or in more than one field event taking place simultaneously, b.) In a field event, no competitor is allowed more than one trial recorded in any round of competition. c.) If a competitor is absent for a round and has not returned prior to the start of the next round they will have been d.) In pole vault and high jump, any trials/heights missed in any round will be recorded as a pass (ie. did not jump). 11.) MARSHALLING AREA The marshalling area will be adjacent to the starting line for each track event. The marshalling area will be on the outside of the track. All field event people are to check in at the competition site. 12.) FACILITY a.) Resurrection CHS is located at b.) Long jump, high jump and triple jump are of the same material. c.) Shot put and discus have concrete surfaces. d.) Javelin will be thrown from grass. e.) Spikes length may not exceed 6 mm for track events. f.) Photoelectric timing will be used for all track events. g.) No unauthorized individuals will be allowed on the track or the infield at any time. 13.) EQUIPMENT a.) Throwing implements will not be provided. b.) Athletes must have their implements approved by the Technical Official. Such implements may then be c.) The starting heights for pole vault will be determined by the meet director after consulting the association results. c.) Increments: High Jump will increase by 5 cm and pole vault by 20 cm intervals. With six or fewer competitors left, 15.) BOXES A box start will be used for the 800m. 16.) 4 x 400m RELAY A three turn stagger will be used in the 4 x 400m relay. 17.) AWARDS In each event, the top six (6) finishers will be awarded an OFSAA WEST REGIONAL ribbon. 18.) TIME CHANGES to SCHEDULE Blocks of events will not run ahead of schedule. 19.) PROTESTS a.) Protests must be made no later than 30 minutes after the result has been posted. Protests of Friday events must be protested Friday night (i.e. 4 x 100m relay). Failure to remain for a final result posting is not an acceptable excuse. b.) Protests must be written and presented to the meet director within the 30 minute time frame. c.) The meet director will meet with the official involved. It may then be appealed to a Jury of Appeal (1 Meet Director, 1 Official, and 1 neutral coach from the host region) where a $50.00 cash fee must be included with the written protest. Successful protests will have their fee returned if the decision favours the protest. d.) The decision of the jury is FINAL. 20.) MEDICAL It is the responsibility of all schools to provide for their medical needs. |
