OFSAA WEST REGIONAL 2009

GENERAL INFORMATION

 

PLEASE NOTE: Entry to the facility will not be allowed until 2:00pm to minimize disruption to the school,
please abide by this request.

 

1.) AGE CLASSIFICATION AND ELIGIBILITY:

 

a.)        MIDGET         - 14 years and under as at midnight December 31, 2008.

JUNIOR          - 15 years and under as at midnight December 31, 2008.

SENIOR          - 19 years and under as at midnight December 31, 2008.

 

b.) Any student entered must meet the eligibility requirements of his/her association and those of OFSAA. Ages must be checked carefully. It is understood that the principal of each school has certified each athlete eligible prior to entry in any high school meet.

 

2.) ENTRIES, ENTRY FEE AND SUBSTITUTIONS

 

a.) Each association may enter up to FIVE (5) (6 for the host region) athletes per individual track, field or relay event.

 

b.) Competitors may enter three (3) individual age class or open events.

 

c.) Each competitor may enter one age class relay (his/her own age class or higher) and the open 4 x 400m relay. NO SCHOOL MAY ENTER MORE THAN ONE TEAM PER AGE GROUP RELAY EVENT.

 

d.) Entry Fees are:      I.)         $   8.00 per athlete per event

II.)        $ 25.00 per relay team.

 

e.) Substitutions to the Regional meet are allowed if the change is made by the Association Convenor before 4:00 pm on
 Monday, May 25th, 2009 to Bryan Stride at

No changes will be accepted after this date. Under no circumstances will substitutions be allowed on the days of the meet.

 

3.) OFSAA ENTRY FEE

 

a.) An OFSAA entry desk will be set up at the Regional Meet. It is the responsibility of each school to check
before they leave the meet to ensure that all of their athletes are entered in the OFSAA meet.

Scratches made at this time will advance the next qualified athlete. Those advancing by this procedure
will be notified ASAP by the meet directors.

 

b.) Any problems that may exist concerning regional entries or OFSAA entries must be directed to the Regional Convenor
by your ASSOCIATION CONVENOR only.

 

c.) OFSAA entry fees are paid by the Regional Convenor from the entry fees collected at the regional meet.

4.) ATHLETE NUMBERS and UNIFORMS

 

a.) Numbers will be assigned to each athlete. Athletes must wear the assigned number on the:                                      
                                     
I.)         Back for track events finishing in lanes

II.)        Front for other track events

III.)       Front or back for field events

 


b.) Each relay team must have an athlete wear a number appropriate to the school. This number must be worn on the
back of the last runner in the 4 x 100m relays or on the front of the last runner in the 4 x 400m relay events.

 

c.) Athletes must compete in their school uniforms. Relay teams must wear IDENTICAL TOPS.
The OFSAA uniform policy will be in effect throughout the meet entirety.

 

d.) Envelops containing numbers, pins, etc. for each school will be available at the
entrance to the facility as of 2:00 pm Friday, May 29. They may be picked up only by the coach or designated adult for that school.

 

5.) SEEDING and LANE ASSIGNMENTS

 

a.) Field events will not be seeded. The order of jumping and throwing will be random and this will be done
by the entries chair prior to the start of the meet.

 

b.) Track events run in heats to finals will be seeded so that the top seeds are separated into different heats.
Only seed times from the association meet will be used when determining heat placement.
Lane assignments in heats will be by random selection.

 

c.) Lane assignments from Heats to Finals: The top four seeds (Four fastest Times in heats) will be placed in
lanes 3, 4, 5, 6 by random draw with the remaining four athletes in the final placed randomly in lanes 1, 2, 7 and 8.

 

d.) In all timed section finals, the THREE ASSOCIATION WINNERS will be placed in the last (fast) section along
with the next five best seed times. Only association performances will be used for seed purposes.
The four fastest times will be randomly placed in lanes 3, 4, 5 and 6.The next four best times will be placed in lanes 1, 2, 7 and 8.
The remaining 7 athletes/relay teams will be placed in the first section (slow) using the same lane selection procedure.
Lanes 3, 4, 5 and 6 to the four next best times and lanes 2, 7, and 8 for the remaining individuals or relay entries.

 

e.) In all timed section finals, the top finishers will be determined by the best times from both sections.
If there is a tie for the last qualifying position for advancement to OFSAA (4th place) then the tie must be
broken by a run-off unless one of the athletes or relay teams chooses not to go to the OFSAA meet.

 

6.) QUALIFYING from a HEAT to a FINAL

 

The top three finishers in each heat plus the next two fastest times will qualify to the final.
If there is a tie in time for the last qualifying position, then a run-off will occur.

  

7.) SCRATCH RULE

 

If an athlete scratches from a track final after qualifying from a heat, he/she may not compete in any other
event for the remainder of that day. Athletes may scratch from other events without penalty.


8.) FIELD EVENT =TIMING=

 

The 1.5 minute rule will be used in the pole vault event. In all other field events, the 1 minute rule will be used.
With 2 or 3 competitors left, three minutes will be used in the pole vault and two minutes in the high jump.
With one competitor left, six minutes will be used in the pole vault and five minutes in the high jump.

 

9.) FIELD EVENTS (Final Three Jumps)

 

In throws and horizontal jumps, after 3 jumps the top eight and ties for eighth will be given three additional trials.
No tie breaking procedure will be used at this stage.  The order of jumps will be 8th jumps first, 1st jumps last after the qualifying round.

 

10.) CONFLICTS

 

a.) If a competitor is entered in both a track and field event, or in more than one field event taking place simultaneously,
the field event judge may allow the competitor to take his/her trials in an order different from that decided prior to the start of the competition.

 

b.) In a field event, no competitor is allowed more than one trial recorded in any round of competition.

 

c.) If a competitor is absent for a round and has not returned prior to the start of the next round they will have been
deemed to have passed on that round. He/she may only receive his/her attempt in the round of competition in progress at that time.

 

d.) In pole vault and high jump, any trials/heights missed in any round will be recorded as a pass (ie. did not jump).
If the bar has been raised, it is not lowered for the returning athlete.

 

11.) MARSHALLING AREA

 

The marshalling area will be adjacent to the starting line for each track event. The

marshalling area will be on the outside of the track. All field event people are to check in at the competition site.

 

12.) FACILITY

 

a.) Resurrection CHS is located at 400 University Avenue Kitchener. The track surface is an eight lane
weather flex surface (all weather).

 

b.) Long jump, high jump and triple jump are of the same material.

 

c.) Shot put and discus have concrete surfaces.

 

d.) Javelin will be thrown from grass.

 

e.) Spikes length may not exceed 6 mm for track events.

 

f.) Photoelectric timing will be used for all track events.

 

g.) No unauthorized individuals will be allowed on the track or the infield at any time.
Please remind your athletes and fellow coaches of this and the potential danger (Javelin in the infield).

 

13.) EQUIPMENT

 

a.) Throwing implements will not be provided.

 

b.) Athletes must have their implements approved by the Technical Official. Such implements may then be
used by all competitors in that competition.

 

c.) Pole vault competitors must provide their own poles. A competitor may use another
jumper
=s poles only with the owner=s permission.

 

14.) HIGH JUMP and POLE VAULT

b.) The starting heights for pole vault will be determined by the meet director after consulting the association results.

 

c.) Increments: High Jump will increase by 5 cm and pole vault by 20 cm intervals. With six or fewer competitors left,
the increments will be 3 cm for high jump and 10 cm for pole vault. Any change to these increments must
be approved by the Field Official.

 

15.) BOXES

 

A box start will be used for the 800m.

 

16.) 4 x 400m RELAY

 

A three turn stagger will be used in the 4 x 400m relay.

 

17.) AWARDS

 

In each event, the top six (6) finishers will be awarded an OFSAA WEST REGIONAL ribbon.

 

18.) TIME CHANGES to SCHEDULE

 

Blocks of events will not run ahead of schedule. 

 

19.) PROTESTS

 

a.) Protests must be made no later than 30 minutes after the result has been posted. Protests of Friday events must be protested Friday night (i.e. 4 x 100m relay). Failure to remain for a final result posting is not an acceptable excuse.

 

b.) Protests must be written and presented to the meet director within the 30 minute time frame.

 

c.) The meet director will meet with the official involved. It may then be appealed to a Jury of Appeal (1 Meet Director, 1 Official, and 1 neutral coach from the host region) where a $50.00 cash fee must be included with the written protest. Successful protests will have their fee returned if the decision favours the protest.

 

d.) The decision of the jury is FINAL.

 

20.) MEDICAL

 

It is the responsibility of all schools to provide for their medical needs.
